Nutcracker SVG Designs: Free Cutting Files Perfect for Silhouette or Cricut

The two nutcracker SVG files on this post, have so many fun ways you can bring them to life!

When I was growing up I have so many fond memories of going to see the Nutcracker play with my family.  We would dress up, and it would be a fun formal event we went to each year.  During the play I would always be creeped out by the Mouse King and then be mesmerized by the sugar plum fairies LOL.

I know that y’all are very familiar with nutcrackers as well.  When I placed a sneak peek on my IG of the hat, y’all knew immediately that it was going to be a nutcracker.  You are good!

I wanted to create a little bit of variety on this post in nutcracker SVG files, by designing one that you could use by itself or personalize, and then an SVG with a fun saying/play on words with the nutcracker.

Don’t forget to share a picture of how your bring these guys to life on your project.  I want to see your nutcracker in action!

Please note that all the images used to display the nutcracker svg designs in this post are mock up images.

Full Body Nutcracker

Be prepared… this design does have a ton of tiny pieces.  Depending on how small you cut it those pieces can be super tricky to work with.  So, just be prepared for that going into this project.

I think this little nutcracker design would be adorable on a pocket, a jammies shirt with a name, or even on a tea towel as pictured.  You could totally use it with any medium (paper, adhesive, or iron-on vinyl)

Check out how to use heat transfer vinyl and make sure as you layer to only press each of the layers for a couple seconds.  You don’t want the vinyl to burn!

If you need a gingerbread svg to go with him (maybe for personalized holiday sibling shirts) we have got you covered.

Nuts About Christmas

When I was deciding what phrase I wanted to use with the nutcracker face, there were several options that I threw around.  Here is a peek into a few other choices:

  • Christmas Drives Me Nuts
  • Nuts for Christmas (as pictured)
  • Let’s Get Crackin’
  • It’s the Nuttiest Time of the Year

I wanted to keep the design positive and fun which is why I ended up going the route that I did.  I love the holidays and so this design just seemed to fit perfectly.

Nutcracker SVG Highlights

Each of these nutcracker files have some pretty small pieces.  (Although the Nuts about Christmas file doesn’t have as many). These weeding tips and tricks will help as you dive into bringing these files to life.

These nutcracker SVG cutting files work on both a Silhouette and Cricut cutting machine.  Which machine do you have?

Just a reminder that I always encourage you to do a test cut.  Doing a test cut reduces vinyl waste and ensures a quality cut.  Test cuts have saved me soooo many times!

REMINDER: If you are a Silhouette Studio user and are using the basic/free version of the software you will need to upload the DXF instead of the SVG.  Be prepared… the DXF file cuts crazy slow, because of how many nodes are in that file type.  This is totally normal but also really annoying.
I highly recommend doing a tiny offset of the DXF cut line and cutting the offset line instead.  Doing this will help your design cut so much faster on your machine.
Once you have brought your nutcracker svg design to life I would love to see what you created.  I totally get the feeling of nervousness before you share.  I encourage you though, to take a chance.  Growth never happens inside of our comfort zone.
Head over to our Facebook Community and take the leap!  We want to cheer you on!

Where to Begin

I first got my cutting machine as a Christmas gift.  It feels like yesterday (even though it has been years now) when I made my very first cut with her.  The machine was so much louder when cutting than I expected but the project was so much more fun than I expected.

I put names and designs on all my kids water bottles.  Drinkware and personalization is such a great place to start when trying to figure out what to create.

Even though these nutcracker files have tons of pieces, it would also be a wonderful way to break your machine in.  That nutcracker would even be so cute in paper!

I encourage you to dive in and get started if you haven’t yet… and if it has been a while, brush off the dust and get creating!  The feeling of pride that you will have once you have completed your project is indescribable.

If you are looking for some high quality materials to craft with, my favorite spot for vinyl is hands down Expressions Vinyl.   I also love the convenience of shopping off Amazon (don’t you?).  Make sure to check out my Amazon favorites and tools here in my Amazon shop.

Reminder when working with the Nutcracker SVG designs:  Double check that you are working with the SVG file if you want to ungroup and manipulate the elements.  If you are wanting to use print and cut then make sure to upload the PNG.

At first deciphering the various file types can feel confusing.  If you aren’t able to ungroup and manipulate the elements in the design you might be uploading the PNG and not the SVG!  Read more about when to use what file and the difference between SVG and PNG file types.

Really cute design! I used the design for the front of a card. Because I was using card stock, as opposed to vinyl, I wanted a base to hold all the pieces. I duplicated the Nutcracker and welded it all together to have one piece the full size of the nutcracker. Because I cut it from black, I didn’t need the cut out his legs or hat as they were the base piece. Unless I missed them, some assembly tips would have been helpful. A couple pieces need to be on lower levels – that wasn’t obvious to me at first. The finished card turned out well. Thank you!

    • MyDesigns on December 5, 2022 at 8:55 am

Great job on piecing it all together! I bet the card is adorable!
