Hey Stacey!  Can you please tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Stacey and I am originally from Nashville, TN.  As a child I fell in love with art.  I dabbled in many mediums through the years moving into my adulthood.  I currently reside in Aledo, Texas which is right outside of Dallas alongside my husband Jeremy, daughter, Annabelle and two basset hounds.  We have lived in Texas since 2014.

Could you please share a little about the significance of where your business name comes from?

My husband gave me the nickname “Diva” when we first met because I was into makeup, hair, clothes…you name it.  The last part of my business name is a shortened version of my last name.

How did you first get into designing?

In the winter of 2018, my husband purchased a Cricut for me as an early gift for Christmas.  He knew I loved making things and gave it to me early so I could make gifts for Christmas.  I fell in love with using the machine and thought it would be fun to create my own designs.  One of the very first things I made was a shirt for my daughter, Betty.  It featured one of her favorite characters from the TV show “Yo Gabba Gabba”.  I was so proud of that shirt.  In January 2019 my 7-year-old daughter, Betty passed away unexpectedly.  To help me cope with the enormous loss I immersed myself into designing and began selling my designs on Etsy and shortly thereafter Design Bundles.

What is your favorite type of design to create?

I have a passion for home décor.  So many of my designs have been focused on designs that can be used to make home décor.  I have since branched out to include other types of designs.  But my heart is still heavily invested in making designs for the home.

Do you prefer designing or making the actual item?

I love both however designing has become my favorite thing to do.  I love seeing my customers create projects.  When I see something someone has created using one of my designs it truly brings me so much joy.

How would you describe your style?

My style tends to lean more towards the “modern farmhouse” with a little “boho and rustic luxury” aesthetic.

What’s something you wish you knew when you first started designing or creating?

I wish I had taken the time to take classes to learn more of the in’s and out’s of Illustrator.  I still am learning new things to this day.  Illustrator is such a powerful program and I feel I have not yet tapped into it’s full potential.

Who or what inspires you?

First and foremost my daughter, Betty.  She was such a beautiful soul with so much light and love.  Through designing I feel I have been able to maintain a connection with her.  I feel that she has been right alongside me this whole time and that she is as much a part of “Diva Watts Designs” as I am.  I am also inspired my my daughter, Annabelle.  She is a teenager and helps me with current “trends”.

What does a typical day or week look like for you behind the scenes?

I have struggled with maintaining a life/work balance however in recent months I try to keep my main designing Monday through Friday.  I do answer emails however on weekends.  I try to make sure I am available for my customers.  I know they are eager to use the designs they purchase from me, so I want to make sure I can help them when they need me.

What’s your most popular item in your shop or on your blog?

One of my bestselling (and favorite) designs has been “Like Branches On A Tree” which features a tree that I drew with a heart.  I have since made variations of the design.

When you aren’t designing what can we find you doing?

Spending time with my family.  We love to shop, go to the movies, theater or just hang out at home.

What is your favorite food?

Does coffee count?  Seriously though probably seafood.

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?

A dog.  They are so loving and loyal.

What’s next for you?

I plan to continue to expand my design portfolio to include more home décor based designs, laser designs and more.

Where can we find you online?

You can find me on Etsy, Design Bundles and SoFontsy.  I am also a contributing artist for Cricut, Silhouette and Glowforge.  My largest selection of designs can be found on Cricut.  I feature a lot of designs and drawings there that I don’t have available anywhere else.

Thank you so much Stacey for being our featured guest designer this month inside of Club Chaos.  We appreciate you taking some time to chat with us and share a little bit of the behind the scenes.  It has been so fun to learn a little bit about you and about your process.  Also a big thanks to our Chaos community for cheering her on!
